This Sock Set is the fifth instalment in our “Great Women in Herstory” range where we will be inspired by both infamous and legendary women throughout time.

Emmeline Pankhurst advocated suffrage for women, beginning in the 1860s, through the Women’s Franchise League, the Women’s Social and Political Union and finally the Women’s Party. Becoming known for physical confrontations, militant activity including arson and recieving brutal prison sentences, as war enveloped Britain in 1914 Emmeline encouraged women to contribute to the war effort and serve to carry on industries while men were urged to the front line. The vote was finally extended to all women over the age of 21 in 1928, the year of Emmeline’s death.
